MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

New Chair Liz Jansen Takes The Reins.

I am honoured to be stepping into the Chair position and grateful to be serving with leaders of our community at such a pivotal and auspicious time for MCC.   Five years ago, a group of visionaries founded our organization to serve the needs of motorcycling and motorcyclists from all disciplines of riding.

Since then, countless hours have been contributed by dedicated volunteers and staff to bring MCC from a concept to an organization whose credibility, expertise and values are recognized not only across Canada, but at the international level as well.  Our voice is being heard.
Today, our mission of uniting motorcyclists, promoting, protecting and preserving motorcycling is being realized. We have seen the establishment of specific Councils to better serve the interests of Women Riders, Off-Road riders, the Competition Group and Scooter Riders.  The Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame, of which we are proud sponsors, celebrates our heritage.   MCC has been invited to participate in numerous forums to deal with emerging issues in motorcycle safety and rider rights.   Our own RPM Safety Symposium has attracted leaders in the field to educate on issues that affect us.
A special note of gratitude goes to Peter Sheppard whose leadership, enthusiasm and tireless involvement has guided us to this point.   Relatively speaking, we are still a young organization.   There have been growing pains and the challenges which face us are not insignificant.  However, our future has never been brighter.  The hard work of everyone who has paved the road to date and brought us to where we are and enables us to take advantage of the opportunities that now present themselves – opportunities that will strengthen us all.

Retiring Chair Peter Sheppard Looks Back, and Ahead
My years as Chair of MCC are over.  While it has been interesting, challenging and rewarding, I happily stepped down from the MCC Chair of the Board at the MCC’s fall congress held during the weekend of October 23/24/25, 2009.  The congress brings all the Board together plus members of its councils, such as the Women Riders Council and the Off Road Council, to discuss issues and plan.

The Board of the Canadian International Motorcycle Heritage Museum Foundation also attends for meetings and the annual Canadian Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Banquet and Reunion.  This latter event, held Saturday afternoon and evening, was the largest yet and has established itself as the premier non-riding motorcycle celebration in Canada.
I have been an MCC director since it was founded and will continue as Past Chair for a maximum of two years.  I am very pleased to see the progress MCC has made in establishing itself as a positive force for motorcycling in Canada.  We still have much to do including improving our structure and operating methods, developing stronger reasons that will encourage more new provincial associations to form and join, likewise encourage clubs to form and join plus individuals who can join directly.
Motorcyclists in Canada are still a comparatively small group.  That means we have to work harder to get our concerns heard by Provincial and Federal bureaucrats and politicians as well as the many municipal and other groups who compete for use of off road riding areas. MCC is there to fight the battles at the national level and will support any and all provincial motorcycle associations when requested and the need arises.
We have work to do to encourage the fledgling National Scootering Council to expand, and perhaps the forming of a new Road Riding Council so that riders concerns are directly brought forward and acted on.
Many of these tasks will be lead by your new chairperson Liz Jansen, enthusiastic rider, organizer and leader to date of the Women Riders Council. Her excellent organizational skills, enthusiasm and commitment will ensure the progress and growth of MCC.
